(NEWARK, NJ) -- The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) today joined with 13 other utility commissions belonging to the Organization of PJM States, Inc. (OPSI) in filing a complaint with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) against PJM Interconnection, L.L.C. PJM operates the electric transmission grid in an area that reaches from New Jersey to Illinois and North Carolina, and administers a centralized wholesale electricity market in that area.

This complaint was filed to halt PJM's actions limiting the independence and capabilities of its Market Monitoring Unit (MMU), which is charged with checking for market power abuses and other anti-competitive behavior.

"The Board feels the ability of the MMU to effectively, independently and broadly investigate the wholesale electric market is essential to our energy future," said President Jeanne M. Fox.
